Monthly Mission Recap

This past weekend Argenta UMC engaged in its monthly mission by helping "green" Riverfest.  It was the first year for this arm of Riverfest, and the impact was obvious.  Our AUMC volunteers picked up, sorted, and recruited for the effort.  Props to Jessica McSpadden for organizing our participation.

The Rich Young Man

Scripture: Matthew 19:16-30

This Sunday we will ask the same question that this rich young man asked, "What must we do to have eternal life?"
This is a question that seems to dictate religious conversations so we will take a look at what commentary Jesus had on the question.

Hank Cullen Cater

Argenta UMC has a new addition, Hank Cater-the son of Christel & Shane Cater.  I had the pleasure meeting all 9 lbs. 8 oz. of him today.  The whole family is healthy and happy.
They should be going home in the next couple days.  Contact Audra Arant ( if you would like to help with food.

About us...

Here is an article about Argenta UMC in this week's Arkansas United Methodist.  I think it's an accurate portrayal of what we are in the midst of creating-props to the editor, Heather Hahn.

P.S. This front page picture had to be photoshopped b/c it contained a nude painting.  Ironic?

Peter Rollins

Peter Rollins is an author/blogger/preacher that I follow.  While you'll have to ignore the cheesiness of the overall show, this interview is great (26 min.).  Thought I would share.

Jesus: The Multiplier of Food

Scripture: Matthew 14: 13-21
Structure of Text: Jesus feeds the 5000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish.

How often do we look at the little we have, tell ourselves its not enough-whether that be not enough money, talent, experience, etc.-and are faced with the challenge of either offering what we have or retreating?

This Sunday we will ask ourselves where we need to offer the little that we have for God to multiply.

Jesus: The Restorer of Life

Scripture: Matthew 15: 21-28
Structure of Text
: A Canaanite woman begs Jesus for her daughter to be ridded of a demon. Strangely, Jesus first refuses to help because she is not a Jew, but upon this woman's persistence and faith Jesus performs the miracle.

Sunday is Mother's Day, so it is only appropriate that it is the love, persistence, and faith of this daughter's mother that saves her. However, the strangeness of this text lies in Jesus' delay to help. Why did this mother have to plead so diligently? Why did Jesus delay to help?
